We’ve all been to lots of discussions about pedigree selection and conformation when it comes to making breeding decisions, but Richard will look at how reproductive technologies and even social media are influencing our decisions in the breeding shed. We’ll delve in the history of current technology (shipped semen, embryo collection/transfer/freezing, embryo sexing, semen sorting, oocyte harvesting, ICSI, etc.) and look more closely at the influences that helped develop the technology plus how its affected other livestock species. What’s influencing our decisions about how and when to use the technology? What can we learn from other breeds/species? Bring an open mind and lots of questions to explore the potential positives and pitfalls of looking beyond pedigree, conformation and show records.
