Individual Legion of Merit

Lascaux Soprano (*Popsters Mr. Bojangles x *Menai Contralto) is owned by Bud Gearhart of Santa Margarita, California. Lascaux Soprano, affectionately known as “Sophie” is a beautiful 5 year Section C mare. Sophie is bay with four high whites, a wide blaze and one blue eye. She is a real eye catcher with a sweet disposition and a favorite with the girls who know her at the pony shows. Bud purchased Sophie from Lascaux Welsh when she was just a few days old. She has proven to be an outstanding, all-around pony of cob type. She excels in performance, halter and driving, winning many championships in all divisions. She has not attempted jumping classes but as her owner is a senior citizen, she probably won’t unless granddaughter, Riley jumps her. Riley has jumped her at home and with her little ears perked forward, Sophie seems to enjoy this also. In the summer of 2005, Bud, his family, plus a family friend traveled from California with their ponies and cob to Ohio to compete at the Nationals held there that year. After a very successful showing they made their return trip via Washington State to attend another pony show. They picked up Sophie, then a weanling, and continued their journey home to Sterling Creek Welsh. Sophie has proven to be an outstanding mare in halter, English and Western Pleasure, trail and driving classes, she frequently shows with Section D cobs and is well able to hold her own. Sophie also likes to take an occasional trail ride around Santa Margarita Lake. Sophie was bred to *Llanarth Black Lion and in 2009 produced a carbon copy of herself. Sterling Creek Dramma is a Bay filly with four whites, a wide blaze and one blue eye just like her dam. “Dolly” was shown at halter and as a weanling was National Champion filly, two years and under. Dolly was recently sold to a lady who has not owned a Welsh cob before her. Her new owner is thrilled that she “gallops” to meet her in the pasture. Bud credits much of Sophie’s success to his daughter, Kim Boyd, who trained her and shows her at halter and in English Pleasure. Sophie is a pleasure to own and an outstanding example of the Section C Pony of Cob type.
